Chiropractic Medicine
Chiropractic is the best kept secret in health care. When most people think about Wellness, they they are starting to think about chiropractic. The modern chiropractor is at the heart of the wellness movement. The main underlying premise for chiropractic is that dis-ease is caused by toxins, trauma and thoughts. (Yes, if you look at the original writings of the founders, you will find this is where the now popular phrase "dis-ease" was first seen used in print.) Chiropractors are the only doctors that utilize the premise for healing that all the functions in our body are controlled by our nerves. If our nerves aren't functioning well, then neither is our body. Our nerves may not function well because of falls or accidents that have happened in our past that have caused undetected damage to our muscles and nerves. This undetected damage can take years to show up as symptoms. It's often thought of the aches and pains of growing old. Doctors of Chiropractic also know that the pollutants in our water, air, and food get lodged in our bodies. It doesn't all flush out automatically! Our bodies protect us from these by surrounding them with fat. It's amazing how many people actually lose weight when they detoxify their bodies! And of course, there is stress. We have so much stress today. This affects our adrenal glands, which are the glands that control our stress hormones. When these are maxed out from non-stop stress, this can affect you by causing weight gain, insomnia, arthritis, exhaustion, depression and more. If you're interested in finding a chiropractor, look for one who is focused on wellness. Here's why. There are basically two kinds of chiropractors - the ones who look at it purely mechanistically and the ones who look at it innately. I'll explain. The D.C. who looks at chiropractic mechanistically only looks to take care of the symptom. The intention is to take care of the symptom. By the laws of the power of intention, they will achieve their goal and the symptom will probably go away. But the actual cause for the symptom will not. The chiropractic doctor who looks at chiropractic innately honors the innate intelligence of the body and focuses on healing the cause of what is going on. What is innate intelligence? It is the wisdom of your body that has not yet been uncovered by science. Science is getting closer and closer to it, but it is not yet discovered. Your body is designed to be healthy and fully functioning. Thoughts, Traumas and Toxins (The Three Ts) get in the way of this by causing "subluxations." A subluxation is when the bones in your spine aren't lined up, but are off a little bit. When they are off, nerves get pinched. Depending upon where they are in your body, it could negatively affect your digestion, sleep, heart and so forth. Because - nerves affect all parts of your body. By focusing on allowing your innate intelligence to come forth, your body starts to feel better in areas that you may not have known could be affected by pinched nerves. Medical Doctors are trained to look at diseases through the blood. They do not have this knowledge and many are actually taught to look down on chiropractic without any true knowledge of 'why.' This goes back to The Wilk's Case. It's unbelievable, but true.
Why do I have to go so often?
Think about the hose! One reason is that we have physical habits that knock us out of alignment. And also, think about a hose that’s been wound for a long time and you are trying to straighten it out. It wants to go back to the old position, right?
That’s like you “training” your spine over the years to stay in a position where it has subluxations.
Probably it didn’t feel to good when it went out of place. But you were younger then, so your muscles adjusted themselves. So now some time has gone by, and you’re muscles and fascia and everything that keeps your body in place has adjusted to being OUT of place.
Your muscles are used to how they feels, but you’re still cutting off communication with some of those nerves. Perhaps your aches and pains are increasing.
Not to mention those years and years of habits that affect our spines. Not so easy to break, are they? For example, I have always liked to read and study laying down, resting on my elbow propping my head up with my hand. That’s just a great way to push that top vertebrae out! And that vertebrae being out is one sure fire way to get a headache. But I still find myself doing it. And - duh! - that vertebrae keeps popping out. But I LIKE that habit. My body doesn't. So, I go back to the chiropractor regularly and now it doesn't pop out so often. Your chiropractor is doing his or her best to retrain your body so that it can operate at it’s maximum. It’s not a quick fix.
I hope that makes sense.
I Went to a Chiropractor, and Now I’m In More Pain. They Messed Me Up!
Sometimes when you get yourself 'straightened out', your muscles think something is wrong. As you know, they’ve adapted to your spine being in an unhealthy position. You might say, “Then why put it back?” If you don't have any symptoms now, but your chiropractor has found some misalignments, then you will be preventing the appearance of symptoms. (Preventative medicine!) Depending upon which part of your spine needs adjustments, different parts of your body are being affected. Ask your chiropractor to tell you. It could be your stomach, your heart, your lungs. It all goes back to your spine!
